This job was with Gary Freeman as designer again. I started with all the elements basically that are in the mural but at an initially Tina scale and pattern. What I had forgotten after a break with Gary is that he loves scale. Big, bold and surprising! So after a round of changes the mural basically became this. Gary mentioned a beautiful reference of an Art Deco cinema that he has seen in a stairway in Casablanca,I believe. It had these jazz like figures playing music and dancing. The construction of this ballroom was rather complicated and when trying to work out the panelling of where there was mural and where there wasn’t , was a brain teaser. It ended up being 54 panels and some met and joined, and some didn’t.
The scenics went over the printed wallpaper with gold brush this time and they dded that reflective flair. When looking at the photos of the set, I remember I had done the marble too.
